Artists Statement

My new work looks at bugs and insects particularly domestic pests. I have always been inspired by nature and started drawing and illustrating flowers, birds and insects from an early age and then started to take this into embroidery. I love all forms of embroidery techniques but particularly favour free hand embroidery and free machine embroidery.

Taking embroidery which is traditionally used for embellishment and to decorate and adorn, I use it in a non stereotypical way, to look at a subject which some people are frightened of such as bugs and insects particularly domestic pests, which are just an annoyance in peoples lives, a pest and an irritant but they have been around for millions of years and will probably be on the planet long after we have ceased to exist.
